Day-13: Return To Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon)

Day-13: Friday, February 14, 2014

Beginning Location: Siem Reap, Cambodia
Final Location: Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

This was perhaps the most relaxing morning we've had as our flights aren't until after 1 PM and we have nothing scheduled for the morning.

Around 1130 we departed the hotel for the Siem Reap International Airport. Check-in and  immigration was relatively simple and soon we were in the gate area awaiting our flight on Vietnam Airlines to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.

Today we had an Airbus A-320 for the 45-minute flight to Ho Chi Minh City's Tan Son Nhat International Airport. For a communist country, our trip through immigration & customs was relatively painless though much of the preliminary work for visas and the like had been done by the cruise company in advance or our arrival.

During the 20-minute bus ride through Ho Chi Minh City to the ship we passed through downtown "Saigon" recognizing the Opera House and the Notre Dame Cathedral. This is a city of two-wheelers, more bicycles and motorbikes than anywhere we've been. The ship was docked pier side on the Saigon River.

As the evening was still young we went ashore taking the ship's shuttle bus to the city center located across the street form the Rex Hotel.

We stopped at a local Starbucks and then headed for the Rex's fifth floor garden bar for drinks.

We spent a few minutes walking around the local streets and through parts of the "Tax Store" before taking the shuttle back to the ship around 8 PM.

After a light dinner we turned in for the night.
